Excellent write up on manning. A team can definitely do a lot worse for their #7. Man dog also would not hesitate to stick up for any teammate no matter how much bigger the other player was. He’s carried that all the way up to and through the nhl, never changed who he was from what got him there. I too will root for him in Chicago

Great stuff on Manning Bill. While I often complained about Hak's over reliance on Manning, I certainly never complained about Manning's work ethic. He was a hard working guy who gave his all and stood up for his teammates and you can't ask for any more than that. Good luck to him in Chicago.

Of course you could never question his work ethic and I’m sure he’s a great guy but after this blog is in the rear view mirror, all we’ll remember is the blown coverages and the inability to stop a cross crease pass.

Good luck Man Dog. You’ll be a great punching bag for another team.

Any chance of Lappy going over his handlebars today? Or will that get him promoted to assistant GM?

Good for Manning.
I have no issues with him as a 6 or 7 dman.
I don't blame him that the Flyers played him as a 5 or whatever.

As for being a punching bag for some other team..Every team needs a player that sticks up for the team. Manning did that to the best of his ability and size so i don't think its something he should be judged for.

Manning was not a punching bag for us. He was far from it. I'd rather see manning throwing fists than provorov or sanheim.
I disliked hakstol for how he played manning but I always respected manning for what he did.
Agree with Bill that it wasn't manning's fault he was overly used.
Good luck mandog

Manning seems like a good guy and I wish him well, but can we all just agree that Man Dog is the worst nickname?

Manning was always slighted in philly for the most part. Some fans would always whine about how he sucked, when he actually didnt suck, some just don't know the game. Wasn't Mannings fault he was put in situations he shouldn't have been in. He ALWAYS fought for his teammates, something the Flyers dont have enough of. Good luck Brandon, Some Flyer fans will miss your team attitude

We're definitely in the dark ages of NHL nicknames right now. The most recognizable nickname is Sid the Kid. I mean seriously. The best player of the last 10 years is named Sid the (frank)ing Kid.

Hockey players do so many good things for our society for every team, city, state/and whatever Canada calls states, they represent.
Not enough coverage of these amazing gestures, way to much coverage on how violent the sport is.
This is why Hockey has fallen behind a sport where guys just make a continuous left turn. SAD
